These are the tallest buildings located in the city of Tampa, Florida. All the buildings over 450 feet in height are listed. While only two of Tampa's tallest buildings rank in the top 20 in the State of Florida, the overall skyline in Tampa is a beautiful sight to see.

Some 336,000 people live in the city of Tampa, and 4 million people live and work in the greater Tampa and Tampa Bay metro area. Situated along the west coast of Florida in the Gulf of Mexico, Tampa and the Tampa Bay area is a great place to live. In the winter the Tampa Bay area fills up with snowbirds from the north who come to Florida to escape the cold and snow of winter.

Tallest Buildings in Tampa, Florida

1. 100 North Tampa - 579 feet

At 579 feet in height, the 42 floor 100 North Tampa is the tallest building in Tampa, and the 9th tallest building in Florida. Built from 1990 to 1992 in Postmodern architectural style, 100 North Tampa in Downtown Tampa is the tallest building along the Gulf Coast of Florida.

2. Bank of America Plaza - 577 feet

At 577 feet in height, the 42 story Bank of America Plaza is the second tallest building in Tampa, Florida. Located at 101 Kennedy Boulevard, when it was completed in 1986 the Bank of America Plaza was the tallest building in Tampa, and remained so until 1992.

On January 5, 2002, 15 year old Charles Bishop stole a small Cessna airplane and flew it into a small section of the 24th and 25 floors of the Bank of America Plaza. Bishop was the only person killed, since it was a Saturday. He left a suicide note that voiced support for Osama bin Laden. No permanent damage was caused by the crash.

3. One Tampa City Center - 537 feet

At 537 feet in height, the 38 floor One Tampa City Center is the 3rd tallest building in Tampa, Florida. Located at 201 North Franklin Street in Downtown Tampa, One Tampa City Center was completed in 1981 and renovated in 1993. One City Tampa Center was the tallest building in Tampa from 1981 to 1986. A skybridge conveniently connects the building to the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Tampa.

4. SunTrust Financial Centre - 525 feet

Located at 401 Jackson Street, the 36 floor SunTrust Financial Centre is the 4th tallest building in Tampa. The building was completed in 1992. Though not the tallest building in Tampa, the SunTrust Financial Centre, with its changing colors, is the most beautiful building in the city.

5. Element - 460 feet

Located at 808 North Franklin Street, the 460 foot high, 34 floor Element is the 5th tallest building in Tampa. Completed in 2009, Element is the tallest residential building in Tampa and has 395 units.

6. Park Tower - 458 feet

Located at 400 North Tampa Street, the 458 foot high, 36 floor Park Tower is the sixth tallest building in Tampa. When completed in 1973, Park Tower was the tallest building in Tampa, and remained so until 1981. The building used to called the Lykes Tower when it was the headquarters of the Lykes Brothers Corporation, which was the largest landowner in Florida at one time.

7. Rivergate Tower - 454 feet

Located at 400 North Ashley Drive, the 454 foot high, 32 floor Rivergate Tower is the seventh tallest building in the city. Completed in 1988, the Rivergate Tower is nicknamed the Beer Can because of its cylindrical style. Made of limestone, Rivergate Tower is one of the tallest limestone buildings in the world. The building glows yellow-orange at sunset, and is round to symbolize a lighthouse in Tampa.
